ABOUT KRISTIN SARMIENTO
I am an applied cultural anthropologist with particular expertise in leading research with youth and families. I specialize in using ethnographic approaches to understand the values, beliefs and needs that underly human behaviour, and applying these insights to develop meaningful business solutions. Notable projects include foundational and product strategy research for tech innovation, audio streaming, and publishing companies. My work reflects the pairing of my academic background with extensive corporate experience in both the private and public sector.I hold a BA in Anthropology from Mount Royal University, Canada, graduating as Valedictorian and recipient of the Centennial Gold Medal, the highest award presented to students each year. I am a fully bilingual Spanish-English speaker and a member of the Association of Translators and Interpreters of Alberta (ATIA) since 2016. The opportunity to bridge linguistic and cultural barriers between groups and individuals is always very rewarding for me. My translation portfolio includes various genres of text, including official government documents, community resources for newcomers, and nonfiction books. As an interpreter, I have provided simultaneous and consecutive interpretation services in educational, community, business, and healthcare contexts.
