The science behind effective anonymization of Clinical Study Reports for publication is not black and white. It is filled with the shades of opinions and theories and the findings continuously change with each technological advance. I find the study behind masking direct and quasi identifiers fascinating and enjoy coming up with creative solutions to a problem that does not have a one size fits all answer.I have been working closely with clients to help them navigate the complex challenges around complying with regulations on the publication of clinical data and to develop internal transparency policies to apply across their submissions that protect personal patient data while maintaining as much clinical utility as possible. I have watched the clinical trial transparency and disclosure industry evolve from the perspective of a hands-on redactor that implements the current guidance and sees the risks that can result from small population or rare disease studies.My passion for this work stems from my love of science, problem solving and witnessing groundbreaking medicine help an immediate family member with severe RA. I firmly believe in the movement for pharmaceutical companies to make this information available to the public but in a manner that protects patients that generously dedicate their time to these trials and that does not increase the cost of these drugs for those that so desperately need them.
