Studying physical geography at university provided the opportunity to assess and model physical interactions and processes that govern our environment and landscape. Particular emphasis was placed on the impact in which humans have had, especially concerning aviation, transport and the energy sector. Whilst assessing the impact of these anthropogenic factors in the scope of natural climate forcers, past and future climate change. See below for relevant modules in education section.Second year Independent research article: Conducted geological fieldwork in the Sorbas region of Southern Spain, by employing aeolian procedures (240 wind measurements) and GIS mapping software (Arc-GIS) to provide a word report on the extent of compressional disturbances and crust development on the erodibility of soil crusts. Demonstrated the ability to organise my work effectively and stay focused in a challenging working environment. Achieved a mark of 84%.Dissertation project: The climate impacts of aviation CO2 by 2100. The project involved an extensive literature review and collection of aviation fuel burn for jet A1 kerosene datasets from previously published aviation emissions scenarios. Extrapolation was carried out on fuel burn to 2100 using polynomial extrapolation methods in excel, and then simulated into emissions, concentration, radiative forcing and temperature in a simple climate model ran in Access. This provided the opportunity to identify both the climate impacts of aviation and the effectiveness of industry mitigation measures (EU-ETS, theorised Global-ETS) in reducing this climate impact. The results of this will be used in publication and in a parliamentary competition. Achieved a mark of 70%.
