ABOUT KRISTEN SMITH

I’m currently a Proposals Manager at Wates Construction in this role, I lead the coordination and development of high-quality tender and PQQ submissions, working closely with multidisciplinary pre-construction teams across various regions to deliver compelling, client-focused proposals.Previously, I was a Senior Bid Writer at Esh Construction, a multidisciplined contractor based in Durham. There, I worked within the Pre-Construction bid team, contributing to submissions across civil engineering, commercial build, refurbishment, affordable housing, and facilities management. Projects ranged from new builds to complex refurbishments for clients across the North East, Yorkshire, and the Humber.Throughout my career, I’ve been involved in a wide variety of successful tenders for both new build and remodeling projects—spanning housing, commercial, and mixed-use developments. I especially enjoy collaborating with technical and project teams to craft compelling narratives that not only win work but also reflect the values and vision of the client. Visiting live sites and seeing projects come to life is one of the most rewarding aspects of my job.I’m passionate about continuous learning and thrive on gaining a deeper understanding of how construction teams develop and deliver schemes. Engaging with diverse teams gives me valuable insight that helps inform innovative, strategic, and creative responses to tender questions—ultimately strengthening our bids and adding value.I’m proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) and highly skilled in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), which supports my ability to produce visually impactful and technically sound proposals.I hold a BSc in Criminology with Law from Teesside University, and I’m always open to connecting with professionals across the industry.
