Named as one of the \"Most Influential Minority Lawyers\" in Chicago, and one of the ABA\'s \"Top 40 Young Lawyers,\" Kristen is a first chair trial lawyer who focuses on high stakes commercial litigation matters in state and federal courts across the country. Her experience includes defending consumer privacy class actions, media and advertising disputes, and complex insurance litigation. In her media and First Amendment practice, Kristen assists publishers and broadcasters in matters involving defamation, invasion of privacy, media access, reporter\'s privilege, and freedom of information laws. Representative matters:• Obtained summary judgment for Lincoln Benefit Life Company in a putative US$1 billion nationwide class action centered on alleged overcharges to universal life insurance policies, which was affirmed on appeal by the Seventh Circuit.• Successfully defended multiple media companies in putative nationwide consumer privacy class actions under the federal Video Privacy Protection Act and state analogs.• Currently defending multiple media companies in state-wide consumer class actions pending under a state analog of the federal Video Privacy Protection Act.• Advising companies on privacy compliance issues to mitigate litigation risk under biometric privacy and similar consumer privacy laws.• Prevailed on behalf of numerous publishers and broadcasters in protecting their journalists’ source information from disclosure on reporter’s privilege grounds, including the Associated Press and the Chicago Tribune in a case where the court denied the state’s demand for multiple reporters’ notes taken in connection with a decades-old murder case.• Successfully argued an appeal of the Illinois Attorney General Public Access Counselor’s decision on a Freedom of Information Act request on behalf of a reporter for the Chicago Tribune.In her role as the co-Chairperson of Dentons\' US Diversity & Inclusion Committee, Kristen promotes diversity and inclusion throughout the firm, and develops educational initiatives for Dentons attorneys and clients.
