I provide organizational leadership to implement strategic initiatives to address the prescription drug and heroin epidemic at a state and grass root level. Identified and lobbied for groundbreaking legislation that expanded access to addiction treatment and produced major healthcare system changes by integrating mental health and addiction services into the overall healthcare model. Serve as faculty for the National Association of Attorneys General by providing educational presentations nationwide on addressing the opioid epidemic. Facilitated an grant which trained and equipped law enforcement and lay persons with nalaxone, the opioid overdose reversal medication. Worked closely with executive leadership to plan logistics for special meetings and briefings with national and state elected officials such as former US Surgeon General, former director of National Drug Control Policy and Congresswoman Susan Brooks. Coordinated efforts with the Prescription Drug Abuse Prevention Task Force to draft and publish Indiana’s First Do No Harm toolkit which is a resource to provider’s on proper prescribing of opioids for chronic pain. Advocated the Indiana Medical Licensing Board to adopt the toolkit’s guidelines as laws – which has reduced the amount of opioid prescribing by 25% in the State Of Indiana. Coordinate and implement the state’s largest annual Prescription Drug Symposium attended by more than 900 individuals, bringing in high profile speakers such as New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and famous author, Sam Quinones.
