About Krishnan Swaminathan Gopalan
I am a Senior Research Scientist at Analytical Mechanics Associates (AMA) Inc, contractor at NASA Ames Research Center. My research focuses on multi-scale computational modeling of materials and fluid flows. I have a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. My computational skills range from macro-scale (CFD), to micro-scale (DSMC, kMC), and molecular-scale (MD); as well as coding in python and C++. My current projects involve the modeling of hypersonic flows and gas-surface interactions with high-temperature materials. I have recently developed a framework to model surface chemistry and oxidation of materials at the micro-scales and implemented them in widely used DSMC softwares. I have presented my research at multiple international conferences and have authored more than 10 peer-reviewed publications. I have mentored multiple graduate students in their research. I have conducted independent research for about 10 years and worked effectively with other collaborators when the opportunities arose. I have also chaired sessions and helped organize conferences. My interests are in fluid dynamics, thermodynamics and heat transfer, with a focus on computational modeling of physical phenomena.
