ABOUT KRISHNA KUMAR

As a Ph.D. candidate in Plant Science at McGill University, I am set to graduate in December 2025. My research focuses on comparative transcriptomics and metabolomics analysis to uncover the mechanisms of induced resistance against fusarium head blight in durum wheat. In this study, RNA sequencing data analysis, targeted and untargeted metabolomic profiling (LC-MS), gene identification, characterization, construct development using CRISPR/Cas9, tissue culture, Agrobacterium-mediated transformation, and confirmation of putative transformants were performed. Apart from my Ph.D. research, I have prior experience as a project assistant and Junior Research Fellow at various reputed research institutions in India, where I worked on several research projects involving genetic transformation, regeneration, and characterization of transgenic chickpea lines. I also had the opportunity to work as a Senior Research Fellow in the ICAR-ICARDA collaborative research project entitled Pre-breeding and genetic enhancement for breaking yield barriers in lentil and chickpea, where I was instrumental in initiating interspecific hybridization and hybridity testing (DNA fingerprinting) in lentil and chickpea, which resulted in the development of trait-specific mapping populations in the respective crops. The outcome of this work is evident in high-quality research publications.As a plant biotechnologist with comprehensive research experience, I have gained deep appreciation for the significant role that Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) play in protecting and promoting scientific innovation. To broaden my understanding of IPR, I was honored to participate in two summer schools, namely WIPO-USA and WIPO-KOREA-2024, which were focused on intellectual property and successfully completed several basic to advanced courses offered by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). Additionally, I am delighted to have qualified for the Certified Canadian patent administrator exam (CCPA).
