Currently an ambassador with the SMF within the Physics and Engineering sector. I am currently advocating for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds and supporting them, whilst encouraging them to make the most of the opportunities given to them.Attended many webinars, talks and sessions on developing my professional and personal skills, getting ready for university and work life. I have been mentored by someone with over 40 years of experience in the engineering sector including 29 years in the Armed Forces which is where I hope to pursue my career, who always continues to support and guide me into making the best and right decisions for myself, I\'ve gained a lot of insight in hearing about their experiences which will also help me in the future.Have done previous work experience through the SMF with companies such as Arup, Alstom, Buro Happold etc. I\'ve gained valuable skills and experiences that\'ll help me take the step into professional work life.

ABOUT KRISH PATEL
A postgraduate researcher working towards a PhD in Blast and Structural Engineering as part of the Infrastructure Group. Currently researching Blast Effects on Structures on a fully-funded studentship from the EPSRC Doctoral Landscape Award, and currently holds a First Class (Honours) degree in Civil Engineering. This PhD hopes to make a lasting positive impact in the field of engineering by saving and protecting lives and structures globally.An advocate for young people and those from disadvantaged backgrounds through the work I do within different organisations and at different levels.A Commissioned Officer with the RAF Air Cadets; Wing Radio and Cyberspace Communications Officer; Assistant Directing Staff in No 3 Small Arms Training Team; Directing Staff in RAFAC Junior Leaders; Part of the RAFAC Leadership Review Team.Recipient of the Regional Commandant\'s Commendation for services and achievements at Squadron, Wing, Region, and National level. DofE Leader and hold a Bronze, Silver and Gold Award. Associate member of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers, and associate member of the Institute of Leadership.Social Mobility Foundation ambassador. Double Air League scholarship and Air Cadet Pilot Scheme scholarship recipient. Ex-Junior Leader having graduated from the pinnacle RAF Air Cadets leadership course.Keen footballer having played for my local club and county, school, and university, including receiving recognition from the Football Association for achievements in football.
