WORK HISTORY
Broadcast Journalist, Ugc & Social Hub @Bbc News
London, GB
I am responsible for verifying UGC content relating to newsworthy events and using social media monitoring tools and techniques to identify and write stories which will engage diverse audiences. The role also sees me source and interview speakers affected by the news of the day so that they can be included in BBC News coverage across TV, radio and online.Notable work:• TSB banking crisis story - I spotted people on Twitter saying they could not access their TSB bank accounts online or they could see accounts which were not their own. I informed both the Newsgathering and UK Online desks of this story. I later received a thank-you email from a senior journalist at UK Online who said my actions allowed BBC News to cover the TSB banking crisis story before anyone else. • Jeremy Kyle guest death – Found a woman who was in the audience for the final Jeremy Kyle show which ultimately led to the death of a contributor and the show being cancelled. The woman I found was interviewed on News at Ten. I verified her by asking for her ticket to the show and sent this ticket and email confirmation to senior journalists alongside her contact details. • British Airways cancels all Cairo flights – Alone on a late shift when this news broke, I found multiple people affected by this action who I interviewed and who eventually appeared on BBC News output online, radio and TV. • Sri Lanka travel ban – Using keyword searches on social media, I found people either on or planning a honeymoon in Sri Lanka at the time of the travel ban. • TikTok – I am increasingly using TikTok as a source of news. I have already written stories about climate change activism on the platform and told the story of a seven-year-old girl with cerebral palsy who has walked for the first time.
