ABOUT KRIS MAUREN

Kris A. Mauren is the Co-Founder and President of the Acton Institute, a think-tank whose aim is to promote a free and virtuous society.Along with Father Robert A. Sirico, Kris founded the Acton Institute for the Study of Religion in Liberty in 1990, with the aim of advancing the ideals of individual liberty and free-market economics sustained by religious principles. Starting in Kris’ apartment above a flower shop in Grand Rapids, Acton has grown to an organization with far-reaching international influence on issues of religion and liberty. Employing over 40 staff members and with an annual budget of more than $12 million, Acton advances its mission from its headquarters in Grand Rapids, and satellite office in Rome, Italy.Kris is a Seattle native and the youngest of 8 children, and settled in Grand Rapids to found the institute shortly his graduation from the Johns Hopkins University in 1989. In his previous role as executive director, and now as President, Kris has traveled the world, lecturing and consulting in dozens of countries. He is widely recognized as a leader in non-profit management and consults regularly on best practices in governance, management, measurement and evaluation, and fundraising. In 2010 he was presented with the Charles G. Koch Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Institute for Humane Studies, and was the recipient of the Liberty Executive Award for Outstanding Non-Profit Management. Kris is active in a number of community organizations including the Economics Club of Grand Rapids, Rotary International, and The Philadelphia Society.
