ABOUT KRIS-LANA CARTER

I am a retired United States Air Force Lieutenant Colonel with nearly three decades of honorable commissioned service (Active Duty, Air National Guard and Reserves). In my military career, I have served as a Litigation Attorney, Air Force Legal Operations Agency (AFLOA), a Secretary of the Air Force level inspector general (IG) action officer, a wing public affairs officer, a wing staff judge advocate, a wing executive support officer and a wing C-17 Globemaster (Boeing) conversion officer. Prior to my current position, I served as the legislative affairs lead for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter Program (The Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment). Lockheed Martin is the F-35 prime contractor, while Northrop Grumman and BAE Systems are principal partners in the project. Final assembly of the F-35 takes place at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company in Fort Worth, Texas. Northrop Grumman Corporation in Palmdale and El Segundo, California manufacture the center-fuselage, and the aft fuselage and tails are manufactured by BAE Systems in Samlesbury, England. Lockheed Martin in Fort Worth manufactures the forward fuselage and wings. The F-35 Joint Strike Fighter represents a new model of international cooperation, ensuring affordable U.S. and coalition partner security well into the 21st century. The F-35 also brings together solid strategic international partnerships -The United States, the United Kingdom, Italy, the Netherlands, Canada, Denmark, Norway and Australia- providing affordability by reducing redundant research and development and providing access to technology around the world. There are also four foreign military sale (FMS) customers - Israel, Japan, Belgium, Poland and South Korea. The F-35 Joint Strike Fighter Program is the Pentagon\'s largest program with acquisition costs for both F-35 air vehicles and its F135 engines approximately $406.1 billion and sustainment costs approximately $1.3 trillion.
