The B&O Railroad Museum is the birthplace of American railroading, a National Historic Landmark, a Smithsonian Affiliate, and a National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom site. A 40-acre campus, comprised of 8 buildings and the first mile of commercial track ever laid in the country.Leading the Museum’s preparation for the 200th anniversary of American Railroading in 2027 including a $38 million dollar capital campaign ($30M raised to date) for a campus transformation plan that entails restoring the historic South Car Works building, the oldest, continuously operating railroad repair facility in the nation (presently under construction); changing the Museum’s entrance to face Southwest Baltimore, a challenged community, with the goal of sparking community economic development; and planning for a national and local celebration.During my tenure, the Museum has been designated a National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom Site, opened two new permanent exhibits, three temporary exhibits, is planning for a new Innovation Hall. The Museum annually receives guests from all 50 states and 40 countries.
