ABOUT KRIPA THOMAS
As an Academic Assistant at The University of British Columbia, I support the faculty in both the SCARP and Geography departments, assisting with research, engagement and administrative tasks. I am also pursuing a master\'s degree in Community and Regional Planning, as I am passionate about designing energy-efficient and inclusive urban spaces that minimize the ecological footprint and maximize the social well-being of the residents. With a bachelor\'s degree in urban planning, I have honed skills in various areas including community engagement, data analysis, literature review, report writing, and presentation. Additionally, my academic background has exposed me to a wide range of planning topics such as urban design, land use, transportation, climate change, and social justice. I have applied my academic knowledge to practical settings, including publishing a paper on the correlation between urban built environment and crime in India. Moreover, I have completed two internships in GIS and Spatial analysis, where I gained proficiency in utilizing spatial tools and methods to analyze and visualize urban phenomena and challenges. My goal is to study and find solutions for more gender-neutral and future smart cities, with citizen engagement at the core of the process.
