ABOUT MATTHEW G. KRIEGE

As Counsel at Barnes & Thornburg in Chicago and a dedicated member of the Corporate Practice Group, I have the privilege of guiding clients through the intricacies of private capital. My expertise lies in private fund formation, M&A, private equity transactions, and general corporate matters, with a particular focus on establishing and advising Rural Business Investment Companies (RBIC Funds) and Small Business Investment Companies (SBIC Funds). I am passionate about empowering clients to make meaningful investments in small and rural businesses across the United States.Before joining Barnes & Thornburg, my journey included a pivotal role as in-house counsel for one of the nation\'s leading grocery-anchored shopping center operators. This experience sharpened my skills in handling a wide array of legal matters, from M&A and capital markets to strategic transactions, including the company’s IPO on Nasdaq. It offered me firsthand insight into the challenges and opportunities faced by in-house legal teams, enriching my ability to serve my clients with a deeper understanding of their needs.My academic background, with a law degree from Northern Kentucky University’s Salmon P. Chase College of Law and a Bachelor of Science in Finance, complements my professional pursuits.
