About Kory Russell
People with my background don\'t always get a chance to make the next big splash- I don\'t have a bachelor\'s degree (only an A.S. in Business)- I spent most of my career managing in retail (15 years of it, in fact)- I\'ve been the casualty of some pretty lousy timing in my career But here is why I\'m worth taking a chance on: 1. Have you met a retail management lifer? We\'ve had our hands on EVERYTHING. People management? Check. Multi-tasking? I don\'t know many people that can run a store alone, answering phones, ringing customers, answering detailed questions about products, checking in the delivery truck, and handling an inquiry from HR all at the same time. And that\'s just a Tuesday. We handle HR, loss prevention, payroll, inventory, directing changes, client rapport, business acumen, training and development, recruiting, and more. And we do it all under the same job title. I am a true servant leader. I believe that people leave bad managers, not bad companies. I have built successful teams from the ground up, and my teams wanted to work for me. I support them, nourish their career development, eliminate pain points in their day-to-day, and all without barking and commanding their undying respect. Respect for my leadership comes naturally, since they won\'t ever see me managing from the back office. I am on the front lines, making magic right next to them. I have made some meaningful impact in every role I\'ve taken on- I created a personalized name lanyard for TVS that allowed store associates to express themselves by putting hobbies and interests right below their name, and it went companywide that year- I wrote a new associate onboarding program from scratch for a local e-commerce start-up- After spending over a decade teaching people about the benefits of vitamins and supplements, I still get emails and feedback from the many friends I made in the industry, asking for my expertise or telling me how much something I recommended still helps them- I have ushered no less than 25 associates, assistant managers, and store managers through promotions into higher positions through my commitment to career growth- Even in roles where we decided I was not the right fit, many of my initiatives stuck: commitments to facility neatness and organization, methods of training, and process improvements. In addition to a track record of success, I bring a lot of soft skills with me: Communication. Teamwork. Organization. Attention to Detail. Creativity. Problem Solving.
