As a Project Engineer II with JMT’s Subsurface Utility Engineering group, I play a critical role in delivering reliable underground utility data that supports safe, efficient, and cost-effective transportation and infrastructure projects. Based in the Virginia Beach office, I work closely with both the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), providing engineering support and coordination on projects that span across state lines and serve local communities. Our collection of subsurface utility data is analyzed and delivered with precision to reduce design conflicts, avoid construction delays, and improve project outcomes.Key Responsibilities include:• Managing utility investigations, including utility records research, utility designation, and vacuum excavation/test hole projects.• Coordinating with and supporting field crews using advanced equipment to capture accurate utility data.• Preparing, reviewing, and validating deliverables in MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer (ORD), AutoCAD Civil 3D, and Projectwise; ensuring data is integrated seamlessly into roadway and infrastructure design.• Producing detailed SUE maps, conflict matrices, and utility reports that meet ASCE 38 standards for quality assurance and quality control.• Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, clients, utility owners, and DOT stakeholders in both Virginia and North Carolina to resolve conflicts and integrate utility data into planning and design.• Supporting project budgets, schedules, and deliverables while maintaining a strong focus on safety and compliance in all field activities.
