ABOUT KOH MATSUMOTO

I work at DLI North America, a strategic solutions research team under Dai-ichi Life Holdings. My role focuses on sourcing innovative solutions and startup partnerships for group subsidiaries across Japan, North America, Australia, New Zealand, and other Asian regions. I engage directly with executives, including the Group CIO and Group CAO, to align our sourcing initiatives with the group’s strategic direction. Leveraging my technical background—especially in AI—I have led research on topics such as AI governance, synthetic data, OCR, and RAG-based applications. I also support technical evaluations for colleagues conducting research in underwriting, claims, and sales operations, contributing to technology-driven business transformation. I hold academic training in machine learning from Osaka University, where I used CNNs for environmental analysis of plasma fusion reactors. Later, at Nomura Research Institute, I worked as a cloud engineer, building AWS-based data infrastructure for connected vehicles with a leading global automaker. This dual perspective in AI and backend infrastructure enables me to assess solutions holistically. I’ve led backend and offshore frontend teams, and conducted hands-on R&D in areas like satellite imagery analysis and edge image processing. My leadership style values individual communication as much as team alignment—boosting both individual performance and collective output. I also manage expectations and motivation with a long-term lens. Today, I stay current through conference participation, stakeholder dialogue, and network-driven research. With a balance of technical fluency and interpersonal skills, I connect real-world business pain points to innovative solutions—bridging field needs with technological advances. I believe every stakeholder has different KPIs. By empathizing with their perspective, I can provide the right insight while gaining valuable input in return. This mindset has helped me build productive partnerships internally and externally. Looking ahead, I aim to serve as a bridge between global tech innovators and the Japanese market, which holds significant potential for AI and emerging technologies. I hope to contribute to Japan’s sustainable growth and global attractiveness by enabling strategic technology adoption.
