About Koen van Rompay
Born in Belgium, completed Doctor in Veterinary Medicine in 1989. Then went to UC-Davis and completed PhD in Comparative Pathology in 1994. Research interests are infectious diseases, especially HIV, SARS-CoV-2 and Zika virus. Currently Core Scientist and Leader of the Unit of Infectious Diseases at the California National Primate Research Center.During spare time, manages the nonprofit organization Sahaya International Is also founding member and advisor the Rafiki Memorial Wildlife Conservation Initiative which is active in Uganda promoting conservation including of the mountain gorilla.
