ABOUT KOEL RAY

My Philosophy of Education The 21st century citizen is to be empowered in three key areas- of skills, knowledge and resourcefulness. In a world which is polarised and dangerously conflicted the educator has to also cater to the challenges of multiculturalism. As an educator I strongly believe that Education should therefore aim at developing a cohesive society built on basic human values. 21st century education is learning that celebrates diversity that blends itself harmoniously to promote peace and reduce conflict. Education should focus on a dynamic combination of knowledge, skills, critical thinking and international mindedness. As a teacher of History my aim is to develop in the learners an intercultural competency that enables them to mediate between diverse cultures and people. I help them to develop an understanding of themselves and others in relation to the world, both past and present. I aim at creating a learning environment which inculcates the awareness of global citizenship. These aims can be achieved through the promotion of a global citizenship curriculum which essentially involves an inter/ trans disciplinary approach and regular participation in debates e.g Humanities Interact Forum, MUN. I also believe in participating in Pastoral Care and CAS bringing the learner closer to his community and helping him to understand the ‘why’ of the multiple perspectives. He develops a sense of responsibility and belongingness towards the Community and prepares himself to contribute towards it and improve it. I also believe in academic rigour and excellence and I am fully committed to extend my service and walk an extra mile in this area.
