In this role, I will apply my global experience in tailings reclamation and hydraulic mining projects to support the establishment of India’s first zinc tailings reprocessing project at Rampura Agucha in Rajasthan.This state-of-the-art 10 Mtpa operation and plant will recover valuable metals such as zinc and silver from previously processed tailings — transforming what was once considered waste into a sustainable source of resources. The project marks a significant milestone in advancing circular economy principles within India’s mining industry.About Hindustan Zinc Limited:A Vedanta Group company, Hindustan Zinc is the world’s largest integrated zinc producer, headquartered in Udaipur, India. The company operates world-class underground mines and smelters across Rajasthan and Uttarakhand. Earlier this year, the Board approved the first phase of an ambitious expansion plan to double production capacity, including a 250 KTPA increase in refined metal output and upgrades to mining and milling infrastructure across multiple sites. These developments are strategically aligned with India’s anticipated doubling of zinc demand over the next 5–10 years, driven by large-scale investments in infrastructure and the steel sector.

WHAT IS HYDRO MINING?Hydraulic mining is a form of mining whereby jets of water are used to re-pulp tailings and suspend them into a consistent slurry for environmental clean-up, mineral extraction or risk mitigation. The slurry gravitates from single or multiple mining areas to strategically placed collection points, where it is screened and pumped for re-treatment or disposal. Hydro mining techniques are adapted from site to site to cater for unique factors such as the size and location of the facility, availability, volume- and pressure of water, as well as the hardness, particle size and moisture content of the material that are mined.
