Under general supervision, the Deputy Sheriff is responsible for enforcing state and local laws to ensure public safety and welfare. The role requires independent judgment in handling dangerous or unusual situations, adhering to safety practices and procedures, and operating under stressful, high-risk conditions- Safeguard assigned areas in Northampton County, including the courthouse and other county-owned facilities, by observing for potential criminal activity or conditions that could endanger public safety, investigating complaints, and enforcing laws. Maintain high visibility in these areas- Apprehend, arrest, and detain criminal suspects and law violators as necessary- Serve civil and other official papers- Contact complainants and/or victims of crimes or Protection From Abuse orders in a timely manner. Keep them informed of the progress of investigations- Maintain weapons and equipment in functional and presentable condition- Transport prisoners to county and state correctional facilities including all medical appointments and hospitals- Answer questions and inquiries from the general public and work with juveniles and adults on related matters. Refer the public to appropriate agencies for further assistance as needed- Attend shift meetings, seminars, and training sessions to stay knowledgeable about operations and enhance job performance- Maintain the required level of proficiency in the use of firearms, defensive tactics, behavior management and crisis intervention, criminal procedure, and laws of arrest.
