Information technology has been a massive change driver ever since I entered the scene of business process and supply chain management more than 30 years ago. Even though, technology is just a means to an end. And the end, the only true purpose is and remains the BUSINESS PROCESS.But today, the world is more excited about ever growing system capabilities and AI / ML seem to be the silver bullet for everything. Technology faith unlimited.Yet, the famous saying “If you digitalize a crappy process, you just get a crappy digital process …” is as true today as it was 10 or 20 years ago. Poor adaption – a phenomenon that many tech-driven digital transformation projects experience – is a clear indication of this mistake.The era of digitalization does not only require a revival of business process engineering, but more: it’s about taking the process, the WORKFLOW as the OBJECT of DIGITALIZATION.But at this level of “real work”, surprisingly many processes are left tribal. A blind spot. And a gold mine!Technology plays - of course – an important role.
