Unix Linux System Administrator (Lead Operations Engineer)
Nov 2017 — Present · Denver, CO, US
Deployed Ansible service to automate Nagios configurations. Ansible detected new nodes registered in a database, started data collections, updated Nagios and automatically enabled fault management of the new devices.Automated user administration on hundreds of servers across separated networks by creating an OpenLDAP solution that pulled data from an Active Directory service. The solution immediately standardized accounts/privileges and reduced the staff needed to support these tasks.Setup server configuration audits using Ansible automation. Ansible discovered abnormalities and notified teams how to normalize their platforms to meet security mandates, server standards and performance goals.Generated customized ISO images and automated Linux Kickstart installations for multiple Red Hat, CentOS and Oracle Linux platforms. With these images teams installed and operationalized servers on remote bare-metal hardware in hours instead of days.Wrote shell scripts in Bash, Expect and Python to automate deployment of Splunk forwarders, Nagios agents, Ganglia daemons and backup tools to legacy servers. These scripts standardized the administration of many dissimilar environments allowing a small team to manage what used to be administered by multiple larger teams.Supported highly-available networks by converting legacy Perl scripts to Python, improving performance and reliability and giving the 24x7 NOC advanced notice of potential issues in production.
