About Kersten Sykes

Hello! My name is Kersten Sykes, and I am a Nutritional Sciences student at Cornell University working toward a future obtaining an MD-PhD at the intersection of cellular metabolism and patient-centered research. Currently, I work in the Field lab at Cornell, investigating how folate-dependent one-carbon metabolism impacts the mitochondrial genome, beginning my interest with the \"why\" behind genetic and metabolic pathologies. My current work as a CNA caring for residents with Alzheimer\'s and as a Student Nutrition Specialist for Cornell Dining has taught me that the most precise science is only as good as our ability to make it accessible and equitable. I am also the fundraising chair for the Cornell pre-health sorority Rho Psi Eta, where I have fun planning philanthropic events to support local nonprofits right in Ithaca. I am also currently a student ambassador for the College of Human Ecology and a sister of the Cornell Delta chapter of Alpha Phi.
