WORK HISTORY
Investigations Editor and Consultant @The Examination
I am an independent, investigative journalist, spending part of my time as a senior editor and consultant for The Examination, a newer nonprofit dedicated to investigating public health issues on a global scale. I lead investigations with local, national, and international partners.I also spend a lot of time working toward making the journalism industry more accessible and inclusive. I\'m a mentor with Renaissance Journalism\'s LaunchPad Fellowship for NextGen Journalists, designed for early-career journalists passionate about reimagining journalism and community storytelling through the lens of equity and justice.Other work includes highly confidential and sensitive litigation. I am consistently pouring over hundreds of documents, doing novel research, creating systems for documentation, checking facts, and consulting on narrative elements based on information from parties involved. On a personal level, I keep close track of AI innovation. I earned a certificate from IBM on an introduction to AI in early 2024, and have been training myself on LLMs and content creation since then.

ABOUT KAMALA KELKAR
I tell and manage stories that astound in a ways that change laws, national conversations, and lives. I also lead with compassion, by example, and side-by-side. As deputy editor of investigations at NPR, two podcasts I helped edit just won national Edward R. Murrow awards. One was also nominated for a du-Pont. I led digital for PBS NewsHour\'s weekend show just after the 2016 election. I have a specialized Master\'s from Columbia University in public health reporting. I spent two years reporting in India for a national daily as well as publications like the Wall Street Journal and Al Jazeera. I started my career as an overnight reporter for a Bay Area newswire service in San Francisco. Throughout my career, my work has lifted wrongful disciplinary infractions on incarcerated people in Texas, recovered millions of dollars for wronged citizens in Pennsylvania, rehoused Vietnam War refugees hiding in Bangkok, and more. I have connected with sensitive sources across the country and beyond borders, including the first documented female whale hunter in the U.S. Arctic, men on death row whose brains were scanned for mitigation, and women bride trafficked to the Indian state of Haryana. If I\'m not on the ground, I am most motivated by the people who are, and work to build equitable environments in our industry.
