ABOUT MARY HEATHER FLORIDO
PhD candidate at Harvard University (co-mentored by Dr. Lee Rubin and Dr. Kristopher Sarosiek) with 7+ years of experience in stem cell biology and life science research. I study cell death mechanisms in cardiovascular toxicity and aging, leveraging human iPSC disease models and in vivo systems to understand the aging brain and vascular vulnerability. My prior work in the Cowan lab focused on protective mechanisms in cardiometabolic disease and therapeutic translation. I bring deep hands-on expertise in iPSC culture/differentiation (50+ lines; multiple human cell types) and CRISPR/Cas9 genome engineering to generate disease-relevant models. Outside the lab, I lead the Harvard Graduate Women in Science and Engineering at Harvard and organize symposia and retreats that connect scientists across disciplines and bridge a connection between our Boston biotech ecosystem and academia through my events. I’m passionate about collaborative science and always open to conversations in stem cells, aging, cardiometabolic biology, cell death, and biotech/translation.
