ABOUT KIRSTY HOW
Kirsty has been working in the field of contaminated land for over twenty years. Kirsty leads Stantec\'s Geo-Environmental team. Kirsty\'s role not only includes ensuring technical excellence but also managing the workload across the UK and India teams.Experienced in the design, implementation and reporting of all phases of contaminated land investigation from desk-top studies / preliminary risk assessments through to intrusive investigation, human health and controlled waters detailed quantitative risk assessments (DQRA’s), remediation and validation. Kirsty is very interested in the circular economy and in the context of her work, of diverting materials from landfill,(looking at resource management instead of waste management). As such, she is experienced in materials management plans for the re-use of excavated materials at redevelopment sites in accordance with Contaminated Land: Application in Real Environments (CL:AIRE) Definition of Waste Industry Code of Practice and other permitting options for materials reuse. Kirsty also provides geo-environmental input to large multi-disciplinary Environmental Impact Assessments.Sites have included landfill sites, military land, pipelines, cable routes, ship yards/ ports, industrial estates, sewage treatment works, water treatment works, pumping stations, former gas works and residential properties. Kirsty’s project experience has encompassed England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Kirsty is also on the steering committee of the North East Contaminated Land Forum.
