Following Siemens Healthineers acquisition of Varian Medical Systems, I retained my compliance senior management responsibilities until accepting the challenge of integrating Siemens Healthineers’ corporate governance framework into the Varian organization. In this role, I collaborate with the Head of Corporate Governance, Head of Varian Finance (CFO), Head of Varian Business Area (CEO), and the heads/presidents of Varian business lines and functions (e.g, legal, HR, communications) to lead efforts for implementing more than 56 operational, financial, risk management, legal, and reporting policies into ~73 legal entities across the globe.Key Contributions: Perform extensive analysis of policies to identify overlaps and gaps among governance mechanisms and bring governance framework down to level of roles, responsibilities, reporting lines, and communications to bridge the gaps. Define standards and metrics to measure success, establish schedule and components of review process, automate tracking and approval processes, and allocate resources required for implementation. Spearhead governance education/training and create feedback loop in which Varian leadership could identify and respond to new business, operational, and compliance risk needs. Guide efforts to move toward one corporate culture across the organization while resolving tension between local customs, regulations, and business-unit needs and the desire to set the tone from the top.
