As a Co-op Coordinator within the Arts & Science Co-op Program at UTSC, I support Social Science and Humanities students in preparing for and navigating meaningful co-op opportunities. I provide individualized advising on effective job search strategies, career exploration, and professional development, while also cultivating relationships with stakeholders across diverse industries to connect students with opportunities that align with their academic and career goals. Through workshops, outreach, and collaboration with faculty and campus partners, I help position our Arts students as top talent in competitive sectors across the GTA and beyond.

ABOUT KIRAN HEER
I think a lot about the gap between what students are capable of and how clearly they’re able to articulate it, especially in humanities and social sciences.Too often, talent goes unnoticed not because it’s lacking, but because the language, systems, and expectations of work weren’t built with these students in mind. My work sits at that intersection: helping learners build career clarity while supporting institutions and employers to better recognize transferable skill sets.Over the past decade, I’ve worked in student success and work-integrated learning, designing programs and coaching experiences that help people move from uncertainty to confidence. I’m especially interested in how students develop career identity and learn to make sense of their strengths, values, and direction over time.What guides my approach- Skills matter more than titles- Confidence grows through clarity, not pressure- Career development is relational, not transactionalLately, I’ve been exploring questions like- How do we position humanities and social science students as top talent, not “alternatives”- What does effective work-integrated learning look like when it’s designed for belonging, not just employability- How can institutions better support students navigating ambiguity, burnout, and non-linear paths?I share reflections, frameworks, and practical insights on student engagement, labour market alignment, and career identity development, with a focus on what actually works in practice.
