About Kimberly Mutcherson

I have experience in the non-profit sector as an attorney and have also served on several non-profit boards over the years including for the Audre Lorde Project (NYC), the New York Peer AIDS Education Coalition (NYC), and the Women\'s Law Project (Philadelphia).Since I have been teaching at the law school level first at NYU as an Acting Assistant Professor in the Lawyering Program and since 2002 as an Assistant, Associate Professor, Professor of Law and Vice Dean at Rutgers Law School. I teach Torts, Family Law, South African Constitutional Law, and Bioethics, Babies and Babymaking. My scholarly work focuses on family law, bioethics and health law with an emphasis on using health law topics to study the relationship between families and the state. Within the health law context, I focus on bioethical issues surrounding medical treatment, medical research, and reproductive technology. My family law work focuses on issues of family formation, parental decision-making, and children’s rights. At the intersection of the two fields, my hybrid writing focuses on how the health law arena raises questions about the meaning of family and parenting, especially motherhood, how healthcare decisions get made for and by family members, particularly children, and how the allocation of resources and decision-making power reflects larger dynamics of potentially intersecting oppressions based on race, gender, class, and sexual orientation. My work has appeared in the Harvard Women\'s Law Journal, The Cornell Journal of Law and Public Policy, the Columbia Journal of Gender and Law, and the Nevada Law Journal.Specialties: Torts, Bioethics, Family Law, Health Law
