ABOUT KIMBERLY CAULEY NARAIN

As an internal medicine resident, I solidified my understanding of disease pathophysiology and gained practical experience working with patients; however, I felt ill equipped to address many of the unique health challenges of my socioeconomically vulnerable patients. This experience prompted me to augment my clinical knowledge with a more comprehensive understanding of the risk factors for disease, morbidity and mortality in socioeconomically vulnerable populations. Consequently, I decided to pursue a California Endowment Minority Health Policy Fellowship at Harvard School of Public Health and Advanced Health Services Research training at UCLA. Over the course of these fellowships and degree programs, I gained a tremendous amount of knowledge, skills in policy analysis and developed both qualitative and quantitative research expertise. As a health services researcher and practicing physician, focused on women’s health, my experience and perspective along with my multidisciplinary training uniquely position me to provide useful insights to stakeholders aspiring to improve health equity for women, individuals with low socioeconomic status and racial/ethnic minorities. I have a passion for providing high quality health care and for using my skills and expertise to conduct research that investigates the health equity implications of policies and interventions that both include and go beyond health care delivery.
