WORK HISTORY
Academic Coach @Suffolk Public Schools
In the position as Academic Coach, I participated as a member the administrative team to develop and implement a support framework for testing achievement. Analyzes test data to determine benchmarks, establish goals and objectives, and monitors improvement in the school. I performed on-going classroom observations, coach’s teachers in the improvement of instructional performance, and monitors pacing. I demonstrated lessons in classroom situations for observation by teachers. Developed and conducted in-service training for general education and special education teachers regarding instructional strategies, best practices, and specific instructional topics. I attended staff development and professional activities to improve/maintain knowledge of coaching skills, content knowledge and adult learning theory. I modeled nondiscriminatory practices in all activities and performed related tasks as required. In addition, as an Academic Coach, I use the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) to focus on strengthening teachers’ understanding of core instructional content and helping them develop more effective differentiated instruction and assessment. With the increased academic rigor associated with the new standards of learning, I have helped teachers to “unpack” the standards that helped to improve the vertical progression between grade levels and subjects. In addition, I use the SOLs to help teachers gain a deep and broaden understanding of instructional concepts, use effective instructional practices, and drive quality instruction. The new standards include higher expectations for all students. Through the use of the SOLs, I have helped teachers with innovative ways to provide students with multiple ways to demonstrate their understanding of the common core content. Ultimately, I have helped teachers to use the standards to drive instruction, remediation, and intervention.
