About Kim Sedmak

I love what I do, and grateful to possess the skills and curiosity that enable me to have a job that rarely feels like work but rather pursuing a lifelong passion of telling stories about all sorts of people, places, and things. I specialize in aging but prefer to frame it as living. I am a highly skilled award-winning executive producer, writer, director, storyteller, and communications strategist who effectively works with external stakeholder organizations including the media to develop and create strategic messages and multi-media content for targeted audiences. I’ve been privileged to produce for many organizations and media outlets including ABC News, Metromedia, Post-Newsweek and NBC. Yet, several capstones in my career have led me to the work I’m presently doing for AARP. In 2015, I was selected as the Encore Innovation Fellow for the 2015 White House Conference on Aging which occurs once every 10 years. This fellowship was a result of being the Executive Producer of AARP’s award-winning TV series, “Your Life Calling” hosted by Emmy Award winning broadcast journalist, Jane Pauley. It was a monthly segment airing on NBC TODAY. My responsibilities included leading and managing all production and creative development for the series showcasing people age 50+ who were reinventing their lives in mid-life. The series culminated in Pauley’s 2014 New York Times best-seller \"Your Life Calling: Reimagining the Rest of Your Life.\" This repositioned her career and brought Pauley to the attention of CBS Sunday Morning where she was named host of this iconic program in 2016. I have 35+ years of television broadcast journalism, multi-media, production management, and strategic communications experience with additional expertise in creating social impact campaigns.    Responsible for managing promotional opportunities and establishing key external partnerships to elevate and expand the national and global insights of AARP\'s Policy, Research & International (PRI) experts and thought leaders. I\'ll be working to cultivate new relationships with academic institutions, think tanks, corporations, media outlets and advocacy organizations to develop new opportunities to lead positive social change for people of all ages. This includes working cross divisionally throughout AARP\'s enterprise to promote policies, campaigns and initiatives to disrupt aging.
