ABOUT KIERAN LATHAM

As an experienced Technical Artist and Immersive Software Developer with several years of professional and independent experience, I am passionate about creative and immersive computing, including Game Development, Technical Art, 2D and 3D Art, Procedural Content Generation, and Programming. Currently working at Sumo Digital, I am developing procedural tooling, open-world workflows, performance optimisation, and best practices to support the various art departments. Previously, I worked at the Virtual Engineering Centre, developing applications for PC, VR, MR, and Pixel Streaming for SMEs to demonstrate how new technology can improve their workflows. I also created platforms for medical simulation training, multi-user collaborative design review, pixel streaming, architectural visualisation, and planning. Before this, I worked as a technical artist and VR developer for LJMU on DigiArt, a project on digital cultural heritage. In this project, I designed and developed systems for VR museums and tours of historic artefacts and sites with which the public could interact. Additionally, I worked as a freelance developer for Hobs3D and Imagin3D, creating architectural visualisations and virtual tours of real-world locations using BIM data in VR to showcase real-world facilities. These experiences have honed my ability to handle diverse tasks and deliver exceptional results. I also hold a PhD in Medical Engineering, where I investigated and developed a platform integrating data from a force-sensor controller in a virtual learning environment inside Unreal Engine to assess applied force in mechanical thrombectomy simulation training. In addition, I provided technical demonstration and mentoring to fellow PhD Candidates and taught on the BSc Computer Games Development Course.Throughout my career, I have worked with professionals at multiple levels and in various fields to manage client and stakeholder expectations, develop workflows to manage project deliverables, and demonstrate progress professionally that maintains confidence. My work often involves representing my organisation at conferences and events, both nationally and internationally, and even virtually. As such, I am confident in my abilities to present work, provide technical demonstrations, and promote services professionally that reflect positively on my company. I have always provided positive work experiences to my colleagues.
