ABOUT KIERAN ROCHE

My experience in the Logistics Industry began in my secondary school days when I needed a part time job after school. I was able to leverage my family contacts to secure a position with DHL Express in Christchurch, New Zealand. Instead of simply just going through the motions, I seized the opportunity to learn new skills and completely expose myself to the industry. At DHL we move the world – in theory our business is simple, we move our customer’s shipments from A to B. In practice however, our business is anything but simple – the daily challenges that we face drive me to achieve the best result possible for our customers. Whether it is changes in regulatory or industry requirements DHL is constantly evolving to be the leader in the market. DHL is a keen protagonist of staff development and has invested greatly in my progression. Being part of such a large multi-national organization keeps me motivated due to the sheer amount of opportunities available. This allows me to set goals and consistently bench mark my performance and advancement against a solid framework. My career thus far with DHL has been intermittent; I am now excited about the prospects of a long term career with the organization. I recognized that my public speaking ability is something that I would drastically need to improve to be successful in any career I pursue. This led me to join Toastmasters International in 2013, I attained my Competent Communicator award in early 2015 – I can see a change in myself that I never could have imagined and no longer view public speaking as a punishment, but as an opportunity to grow. This is even more evident through the feedback I receive from my peers and managers. I recently took up the role of Vice President of Membership at my club; I am the first point of contact for anyone that is interested in joining, and love having the opportunity to promote Toastmasters to people who are in the same situation as I was before I joined.• Cost efficient service delivery• Integration of technology with operations• High Performance enablement and benchmarking• Process definition/mapping and solution design • Analytical thinking and organizational skills• Employee satisfaction and wellbeing
