WORK HISTORY
Physical Education Teacher @Liberty Academy Trust
Church Lawton, GB
I work at Church Lawton School on behalf of ASM Sports UK Ltd. Church Lawton School is a free school that provides specialist education to children with Autism and Asperger’s Syndrome aged between 4-19yrs old. At CLS I am Head of Faculty for PE and teach both core PE and BTEC Sport to students with a diagnosis of autism and an Education Health and Care Plan. This role also entails duties including mapping out the sports premium budget, updated policies and risk assessments, assessing students and creating an enjoyable PE curriculum for all. My aim is to design fun and engaging PE lessons to develop and regulate propreoceptive and vestibular senses, as well as improving general gross and fine motor skills. I am a big advocate of team/invasion games to combat social challenges which pupils may encounter during ‘school life’. I have recently been a part of the teaching team that contributed towards achieving the ‘Autism Specialist Award (Advanced)’ in early 2022. I also lead ‘Physical Therapy’ sessions in partnership with our on-site psychology team to combat and improve mental health and general well-being. We use exercise as a tool to allow students to gain ‘physical feedback’ and release any precursors to their behaviour such as anger or anxiety (amongst others).
