Whilst shadowing the Finance Director, my responsibilities have grown since taking on a new role. The main task within my role is providing the Board Management Accounts on a monthly basis. This includes preparing the Trial Balance, detailed WIP calculation, Balance Sheet reconciliations, prepayments/accruals, P&L account, cash reconciliation as well as carrying out all necessary journals. This enables me to provide key analysis on both overhead and gross profit variances that have occurred in the month compared to the previous accounting period. As my role has developed, I am now responsible for overseeing an assistant member of staff who is able to prepare a number of valuable reports prior to meetings taking place, particularly the CVR reports which are key to obtaining an accurate gross profit margin for every project. This has also meant that I have gained experience in providing a detailed development place as well carrying out regular reviews and appraisals. Other duties integrated within this role are preparing and submitting the monthly VAT return which incorporates the reverse charge scheme, monthly reconciliations for our funding provider, annual audit requirements, sales forecast and budgeting, supplier and client rebate calculations, ONS returns, weekly KPI reporting, setting a monthly cycle deadline for each member of the Finance Team, as well as various ad hoc data analysis/reporting.
