ABOUT STEPHEN KIDD

I am an HCPC registered Clinical Scientist in Medical Microbiology and Virology and the lead Healthcare Scientist at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. I have over 23 years experience in clinical research and clinical diagnostics. I am a non-conformist, and a disruptive thinker who likes to challenge the status quo. I am passionate about leadership done the right way, that is value based, patient centred, compassionate and provides an environment to nurture and grow team. I enjoy the challenge of developing new diagnostics, new diagnostic pathways and implementing service improvements through innovation and valuing the importance of co-production. I am driven by a desire to improve the quality of our service within our NHS Foundation Trust and regional and national networks.I relish training and mentoring junior scientists, junior doctors and engaging with the public on issues concerning public health and communicable diseases.I am always learning and looking to grow as a person, leader and clinical scientist in order to effect a better patient experience through a patient centred and evidenced based approach to medicine. I am open to new and exciting collaborations within clinical diagnostics and the wider medical microbiology/infectious disease community. My interests are (but not limited to)- NGS in Clinical Microbiology- Novel diagnostic technologies; particularly those associated with bloodstream infections and AST- Novel diagnostic pathway mapping- real-time detection of antibiotic resistance- POCT and near-patient testing in clinical microbiology- Imported fevers- Global health security and providing a diagnostic service in LMICs during an emergency response.I am agnostic to technology type, always striving to keep an open mind.
