The Yang Lab studies how liquid–liquid phase separation (LLPS) and the microRNA biogenesis machinery contribute to cellular regulation, development, and disease. As an undergraduate research assistant, I apply CRISPR gene-editing techniques to investigate molecular pathways and use fluorescence microscopy to visualize biomolecular condensates in cell systems. Through this role, I contribute to the lab’s mission of uncovering how abnormal condensate formation is linked to conditions such as ALS, Alzheimer’s, and certain cancers, while also developing hands-on expertise in molecular biology, genetics, and advanced imaging.
