ABOUT KHUSHI GUPTA
I studied biology, chemistry and physics right through grades 9th and 10th with all A* across my science subjects during IGCSE, I decided to undertake them at a higher level in 11th and 12th. With greater exposure to Nanotechnology through my extended essay and my concern for food scarcity, I was able to compare the effect of ZnO nanoparticles and traditional scarification methods on germination. Additionally, my research on the increasing exposure of synthetic and natural antibiotics on S.aureus educated me about the inhibitory and relapse effect of such drugs and the importance of following medical prescriptions. My “Industrial Biotechnology Training Programme” at Dr B. Lal Institute of Biotechnology offered me an opportunity to learn more about Medical, plant and environmental biotechnology and Biochemistry. their application on an industrial level. Having taken courses like Disease Cluster (Johns Hopkins) and Nutrition in Emergencies (UNICEF) I learned about tracing diseases, sentinel events and internationalism through case studies, the importance of nutrition in different sectors and working with the government to ensure basic nutrition needs respectively. The course “Introduction to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene” by UNICEF opened my eyes to the situation which underprivileged children are facing due to lack of sanitation which led me to teach the underprivileged children about sanitation and hygiene being a part of the NGO which instilled in me interactive skills and responsibility. Moreover, I co-founded the club ‘Frolic science Freaks’ wherein we changed the perspectives of those who find science monotonous, making them learn in a fun way. By organising the club I gained leadership, organisational and innovative skills. Being a member of the Research club and MedScience club gave me problem-solving skills and communication skills. Writing letters to ‘Dear health care workers’ during the covid time to motivate doctors and nurses who are helping us appreciating them for their hard work.
