ABOUT KHARY PESTAINA
As a Social Sciences Teacher at Miami-Dade County Public Schools, I have over six years of experience in developing and delivering engaging and rigorous curriculum for grades 9-12, covering topics such as U.S. History, World History, Economics, and Government. I am passionate about inspiring students to learn from the past and connect it to the present and future, using various sources and media to enrich their understanding and critical thinking. I am also a recipient of multiple grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, which have enabled me to conduct historical research and participate in professional development programs at prestigious institutions such as the Schomburg Center, Emory University, Amherst College, and Yale University. Additionally, I have contributed to film commentary and criticism as a guest historian for the documentary Resurrecting Black Wall Street (2016), which explores the history and legacy of the Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921. My mission is to share my knowledge and expertise with diverse audiences and foster a deeper appreciation and awareness of history and its relevance to our society.
