ABOUT KHALIA BRASWELL

I am an award-winning technologist, researcher, and speaker. My work is featured in Forbes, NBC, PBS, Essence, Because of Them We Can, The Charlotte Observer, and more.My 14-year career spans designing and conducting research for mobile and web applications using qualitative and quantitative techniques. I am highly experienced at driving end-to-end research studies to grow business opportunities within technology industries to find synergy with the user and business needs.My prior professional experience includes serving as a User Experience Researcher and Interaction Designer at Apple; a Learning Analytics & User Experience Research Intern at Codio; an Adjunct Professor of Computer Networking at Johnson C. Smith University; a coach for education social entrepreneurs at 4.0 Schools; and various freelance projects delivering websites and prototypes for clients.As the Founder and former Executive Director of INTech Camp for Girls, I used a user-centered design approach to grow the 501(c)(3) non-profit to recruit new students, expand our physical reach, gain new partners, and offer more programs for Black and Brown girls. As a result, I raised over in revenue to scale INTech to 23 states in the US and Canada. Additionally, after receiving feedback from our middle school students, I created the INTech Academy, a program for high-school girls to receive hands-on tech training. Since 2014, at least 10 of our program participants have gone on to study engineering or Computer Science in college.In my Ph.D. work, I have published quantitative and qualitative research papers focused on INTech Camp for Girls and its impact on motivating Black and Latina girls to choose a tech career. Additionally, I have mentored undergraduate researchers to develop their skills, resulting in published research papers.As a speaker and moderator, I gave a TEDx talk highlighting ways to get more Black and Latinx girls in tech. I have also shared stages with notable leaders, including John B. King Jr, former US Secretary of Education, and senior executives at Apple.
