ABOUT KEVIN KASSIM-SLANEY
I am an experienced IT professional with a strong track record working on highly available, high performance, secure Banking systems. I am certified as an AWS Solutions Architect (Professional) and a Microsoft Certified Azure Solutions Architect Expert. I am currently involved in designing and implementing the Bank’s cloud strategy, focused on ensuring security in the public cloud.I worked for 10 years on the internet banking platform of one of the ‘big four’ banks in South Africa, growing from developer through development manager, to system architect. I have also architected and developed a greenfields system for the Branch network that aimed to replace mainframe ‘green-screens’ and reduce toggling between multiple system for our front line staff. Through these positions I have experience working with Java, JBoss, PostgreSQL and DB2/400. I have also been strongly involved in architecting, designing and implementing interfaces between systems, including between legacy mainframe systems and the above open source platforms. I have worked with both in-house frameworks and Spring MVC. I, however, started my career as a Chartered Accountant. This gave me a strong business background that I have been able to leverage through-out my career. Although my focus is now solely in IT, having a business understanding allows me to better interpret what is required of the systems I design and build, and allows me to contribute to the business design as well as the technical. In total, I have 20 years experience in the Banking Industry.I have held multiple leadership positions in my career, including Audit Manager at PwC, Development Manager at FNB and CIO: Points of Presence at FNB.
