About Kevin Hauser

I am a mid-career geospatial and natural resources professional with more than 8 years of experience in the federal government. My academic pedigree consists of an undergraduate degree in Geography and Environmental Studies and a post-baccalaureate degree in Natural Resources, with a specialization in Botany, Zoology, and Fish and Wildlife Conservation. I am currently a graduate student at California State University, Long Beach studying Geographic Information Science (GISc). I also have experience in academia as a former professor of GIS (Geographic Information Systems) from Creighton University.I have long-standing interests in spatial ecology. This passion lies at the crossroads of geographic information science and natural resources-particularly integrating these fields and leveraging geospatial technology to enhance our understanding of biological phenomena and improving natural resource management. I am seeking full-time permanent employment with a federal land management agency. Alternatively, I am open to other job prospects in the public sector, such as state fish and wildlife agencies, county, and municipal governments. I am also interested in pursuing a Ph.D. research assistantship. My research interests are in spatial ecology-particularly understanding, examining, and analyzing the spatial distribution, movement dynamics, migration patterns, dispersal characteristics, homing trends, and space use of animal species. I am most interested in examining spatiotemporal relationships between animals and understanding wildlife in a geospatial context. My cover photo is a raster output I created using a LiDAR (light detection and ranging) point cloud dataset to classify and analyze changes in vegetation patterns over a 74-year time period (1948 to 2022) for the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe in South Dakota.
