ABOUT KEVIN MANNINEN
I\'m a Senior Business Consultant with the Upper Michigan region of the Michigan Small Business Development Center. I provide expert guidance and support to small business owners, both new and established, to help them launch, grow, transition, and innovate. I offer individualized, results-driven consulting services, focusing on areas like problem-solving, developing business plans, and generating realistic financial goals. Before joining the Michigan SBDC, I was the Manager for Advising and Career Development at Michigan Tech Career Services. In this position, I advised students and alumni in career preparation through resume and cover letter development, interviewing skills, job offer negotiation, networking, and related areas. As dean of the International School of Business at Finlandia University from 2013-23, I managed all aspects of the school through challenging times. These included strategic planning, marketing, scheduling, teaching, hiring faculty and staff, budgeting, academic advising, project and event management, and developing and implementing new initiatives and programs. I am also an experienced business and economic development manager having focused on business attraction and entrepreneurial development here and abroad (Jyväskylä, Finland). My experience as a business lecturer includes 11 years at Finlandia University and another 15 years at the JAMK University of Applied Sciences in Jyväskylä, Finland. I also lectured in other countries including Russia, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Germany, Italy, France, and Hungary. Courses I have taught include Project Management, Entrepreneurship, Global Entrepreneurship, International Marketing, High-tech Marketing, Entrepreneurial Marketing (strong digital component), Integrated Marketing Communication, Strategic Management, Cross-cultural Communication, and others.I also have an extensive background in mentoring and coaching entrepreneurs and established companies in business planning, strategy, marketing, and going global. I am a Certified Global Business Professional (CGBP).
