Kevin J. P. O’Hara has cultivated a highly successful and diverse career in business, law/regulation, technology, international, government relations, corporate governance, angel investing, and postgraduate-level teaching. Kevin is mission-driven and gravitates toward innovative and disruptive opportunities. His reputation in business and with government regulators and policy- and law-makers is exceptional.Today, Kevin’s professional focus is angel investing, teaching and philanthropy, the latter via his family foundation which provides scholarships and other opportunities for students in urban schools.Kevin’s seminal business experience was at Archipelago where he was Employee No. 11 and served as Chief Administrative Officer, General Counsel and Secretary. Archipelago was a trailblazing electronic exchange that played a pivotal role in the transformation and automation of US markets. It introduced a new operating and technology paradigm which became industry standard for the institutional trading of stocks, ETFs and equity/index options. In 2004, Archipelago was the first SEC-regulated exchange to IPO ($AX). It was acquired by the NYSE in 2006 in a first-of-a-kind transaction transforming the member-owned NYSE into a for-profit, publicly-traded corporation. Kevin was appointed EVP/Co-General Counsel of NYSE.In addition, Kevin served as:(1) CAO, CLO and CSO of the Chicago Board of Trade (acquired by CME);(2) CEO of Gulf Finance House-Trading Division (Bahrain); and (3) Senior Counsel in the Division of Enforcement at the SEC and Special Assistant United States Attorney in the US Attorney’s Office (DOJ)(both in Washington, DC).After the fall of the Berlin Wall, he worked as an economic and legal advisor in Lithuania, Romania and other developing nations.Among his several angel investments, Kevin co-founded CCT Research, acquired by Avacare/IQVIA in 2023. He was an investor in All-of-Us, acquired by PayPal in 2021. He sold RenGen Labs for a stake in Republic in 2019. He also co-founded PointDrive, acquired by LinkedIn/MSFT; and was lead investor in Pivot Point, acquired by Vaco Healthcare, both in 2016.Kevin sits on boards of directors and trustees (nonprofits). He has been a commentator on financial markets before US and overseas regulators and Congress, where he delivered public testimony before congressional committees.Finally, Kevin was a Lecturer at Northwestern Pritzker School of Law and Kellogg School of Management, and an adjunct professor at Loyola Quinlan School of Business, where he employed clinical teaching methodologies.
