ABOUT KEVIN WILKINSON

Ever since I was a kid, I loved to take things apart and \"try\" to put them back together again. After years of ruining stereos and any other electrical items I could get my hands on, I decided to take the plunge and become an Electrical Engineer. I completed my apprenticeship with a placement on the local steelworks and award-winning Teesside Training Enterprise, and progressed into team leadership- and shortly afterwards, to management. Due to the unfortunate mothballing of the steel plant, I found my way to the cruise industry working as an Electro-technical Officer on-board for Carnival UK, Carnival Australia and Disney Cruise Line, again enjoying my role of taking things apart and putting them back together again (although this time, I was much much better at it). Wanting a new challenge I moved into a shore-side position for Carnival Australia, working as Electrical Superintendent to a fleet of vessels. During my time there I enjoyed the project management and budgetary planning aspect, although I did slightly miss getting my hands dirty (you may have spotted a sneaky screwdriver hiding in my pocket during a dry dock.just in case). During my time in this role I was lucky enough to be involved with APEC 2018 held in Papua New Guinea. Due to the lack of hotels and event spaces in PNG, three of our corporation ships were chartered by APEC to host and accommodate delegates. For my efforts with the US Secret Service to ensure safety and connectivity for the Vice President of The United States whilst on-board our vessels, I received a special commendation from the White House. I am currently living in Seattle, WA and working with Holland America Group as Technical Superintendent for Seabourn Cruise Line, where I am focused on personal development within the industry and wider discipline of engineering management. When not visiting vessels or drinking coffee with dry dock managers in some far off (usually hot and humid) distant land, you can find me reading a good historical novel in the sun with a crisp IPA, or on a stand-up paddle-board in the middle of a lake.
