About Kevin Utsey

Specializing in designing places where people gather, work, live, and learn, Kevin Utsey’s architectural expertise extends through all phases of project development. Kevin has design and management experience for institutions of higher education as well as commercial, government, K-12 schools, and mixed-use project types. Projects under Kevin’s design leadership have been recognized with both national and regional awards, including Reston Town Center in Reston, VA. – a winner in the first national American Institute of Architects (AIA) Urban Design Award of Excellence Program. Kevin joined Performance Services, Inc. in January 2026 as a Principal Architect - Project Development Leader, based out of their Charlotte, NC office. For two semesters in 20••••25, Kevin co-taught graduate design studios in the Urban Design program at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He was a Managing Principal in the Charlotte office of Clark Nexsen, a 350-person architectural and engineering firm, from 20••••24, and a Design Principal with HSMM/AECOM from 20••••15. He was elected to the College of Fellows of the AIA in 2013, an honor bestowed by a jury of peers for advancing the practice, mentoring young architects, and providing service to society. Kevin enjoys sketching - he was a winner of the Architectural Record Napkin Sketch Contest in 2018.
