ABOUT KEVIN SMITH
20 years finance experience, 12 years in commercial finance roles (Finance Planning & Analysis and Business Partnering), 3 years leading teams in Financial Shared Service Centres and a solid grounding in traditional accounting processes at the start of my career. 10 years working with senior/board level and other key stakeholders. 7 years of international rotations with assignments in 20 countries. ABOUT ME Life is full of puzzles, and I love solving puzzles. I am an Analytics Translator; this means: 1)Working with people across the business (I know it seems obvious but this means talking to people in a language that they understand). 2) Finding the biggest business problems that are preventing success or processes that need to be stream-lined (it\'s amazing what you can do in a lunch queue, or by a coffee machine). 3) Finding ways on how data can be used to help the business succeed (with bit of creativity / Entrepreneurial spirit). It is rewarding to stop \'making reports’ and start providing information that is used to make decisions and take actions. This creates actual business value, not just playing with cool tech. I love to improve things; manual data work is the enemy. CFOs for years have wanted to spend more time looking forwards and less time explaining the past, for this to happen the way that reporting, planning and analysis is done needs to transform. This is the puzzle I enjoy the most. Finance is going through a revolution, get in touch if you want to talk about it. When I am not at work (or in the garden), I take wood into my workshop and bring out things to make a beautiful home for my family. If there is still time left over, I am a bass player and musical arranger (more puzzles, just no ‘correct’ answers).
